He describes production assistant Rosie Coker as the “nice half of my brain”, always there to inspire him when the doubts creep in.
The couple worked together on new movie The Woman In Black, which has its world premiere in London tonight.
Daniel, 22, has also had verse published under the pen name Jacob Gershon and Rosie spurs him on to do more. He says: “I’ve written much less poetry recently.
“I still try occasionally but I end up getting thwarted by my own self-analysis.
“I’m writing things down then immediately dismissing them when, in actual fact, I should be just writing.
“She stands there behind me, encouraging me ? and any time I’m like, ‘I can’t write any more’ she goes, ‘No, no, no, let’s just write’. She is very encouraging.
“She’s like the nice half of my brain ? the part of my brain that doesn’t dislike me ? that’s her. She encourages me, which is nice.”

A Rosie glow … Daniel Radcliffe in New York with his girlfriendFrank Ross
Daniel, who met Rosie on the set of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince in 2007, has been acting professionally since he was ten.
He made eight Harry Potter movies in just under ten years, and the films earned more money than any other movie series in cinematic history.
In between he starred in the film December Boys, TV drama My Boy Jack and appeared on stage in the hit play Equus.
That demanding schedule meant he rarely took more than a week off work.
Daniel, who never needs to work again having accumulated a fortune worth an estimated ?50million, says: “I don’t particularly like taking breaks.
“I’ve never taken a break. I’ve worked since I was ten pretty much every day.
“Somebody said to me the other day ? which I find is a ridiculous question ? they asked about the money and the wealth thing and said, ‘Why are you still working?’
“I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do anything else’.

Ripped … appearing on stage in Equus
“This is all I’ve done and I love it. And I don’t want to swap it for anything.
“This sounds like quite a sad thing to say but I don’t think it is. The happiest I ever am really is on a film set.
“I absolutely love being there. They’re wonderful places.
“So I just want to keep working for as long as possible.
“I am taking three weeks off in February, which will be the first time in four years that I’ve had more than a week.”
Perhaps it would be the perfect time to learn to cook properly.
He says: “Cooking is not something I do very much of. I’ve tried, I’m OK ? but I just can’t be bothered to do it every night, which is so lazy.
“But I’ll get better at it and for now I can order things or microwave. So between the two of them I’m kind of OK.”
Rosie, also 22, is understanding about his addiction to work and will have to make the most of those three weeks off because Daniel has no intention of letting up.
He says: “She knows me, so she knows that this is what I’m like.
DANIEL Radcliffe gets a scare in first look at creepy new movie
“She knows I love my job and there’s nothing I would ever do to not be doing my job.
“I love it ? and also, it’s not going to be like this for ever.
“I’m not going to be as in demand as I am now for ever. I think that in this next particular period of about three years, I have to be really, really busy.”
The actor believes some critics are waiting for him and the other young Harry Potter stars to FAIL. So he is working hard to prove them wrong.
He explains: “There will be some people ? not everyone ? who will want to dismiss us as ‘came out of the series and didn’t do anything afterwards’.
“That’s the story some people want to write. And I have to make extra sure they have absolutely no opportunity to do that.
“If I went away for a year after Harry Potter and took a break for a year and a half or something, that article would have been written by now.
“So I think there is an awareness you have to work really hard.
“Also, Rosie is in the industry, so she understands film hours and what it’s like to do a film ? she knows all about that.”
Daniel fits in a hectic schedule by surviving on very little sleep. It has always been that way.
When he was a little boy he gave his parents Alan ? a literary agent and former actor ? and Marcia ? a casting director ? many sleepless nights themselves because of his restlessness.
Daniel, from west London, says: “I don’t really sleep much. I never really have. I’ve always slept, kind of generally speaking, for five hours a night going back since I can remember.
“That’s why I’m an only child. I didn’t sleep a full night until I was eight years old. I woke up at four in the morning every morning like ‘OK, ready to go. What’s going on?’ That’s just always been me.”
There isn’t much sleep to be had for Daniel’s character in his new movie, The Woman In Black, either.
He plays young Victorian lawyer Arthur Kipps, who has to deal with things that scream in the night. Those screams come from the child victims of a vengeful ghost, The Woman In Black of the title.
The Hammer film, which opens on February 10, is based on a novel by Susan Hill.
For a tip on what you can expect, the movie definitely scared Daniel’s mum ? who once tried to contact the spirit world using a Ouija board.

Defining role … Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
He explains: “I don’t believe in ghosts, so I don’t have much fear. I think my mum did a Ouija board or something when she was younger, so she’s slightly into the spiritualism side of things.
“I’m going to make her sound crazy ? she’s not going to like me for that ? so she found this film very upsetting to watch.”
In order to appear like a character from the Victorian era, Daniel had to sport a pair of sideburns.
But he admits that his own mutton chops were not really up to the job.
Daniel says: “The ones you see in the film were laid on every morning by our amazing make-up artist, who put them on hair by hair in 15 minutes.
“I really should grow a pair but, the thing is, I don’t think I can.
“When I grow hair it just grows all at once everywhere and I don’t think it would look so good.”
The actor has recently returned home after living in New York.
He was starring in the Broadway stage musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying for ten months. But America has little pull on the actor, who says: “I still regard London as my home.”

A sideburning issue … Daniel Radcliffe in The Woman In Black
Maybe it is because he lives in the capital that he has not yet learned to drive. “That’s one thing that I need to do when I get a little time off because I’m going to have to drive in a film at some point,” he says.
“I can’t do period films for the rest of my life and just be in horse and carts the whole time.”
Daniel’s next project is another period piece ? Kill Your Darlings, which starts filming in mid-March.
It tells the grim but gripping real-life story of how a murder affected the lives of the Beat Generation trio of writers Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs as young men. Daniel plays Ginsberg.
We’re sure it will be a great success, Daniel. And if you’ve still got any doubts, just have a word with Rosie.
